Conservation · Meeting of October 21, 2026

Hampden Conservation Commission conditionally approved a construction project pending state habitat review and warned a developer of a $300-a-day fine. The board granted Austin Graham of Graham's Construction conditional sign-off on an Island Circle project, contingent on permanent markers and approval from the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program, expected around January. Separately, commissioners gave a South Ridge Estates developer until November 18 to install missing wetland markers or face the fine under the town's wetland bylaw, after an earlier deadline passed without confirmation.

"In our own wetland bylaw, it's $300 a day," a town official said. The board also voted unanimously to continue John Matthews' accessory dwelling unit application at 28 North Munson Road to November 18, and closed a Chapter 61A compliance review at 530 Glendale Road after confirming the owner met income requirements.
