Select Board Rejects School Pact's New Language

Select Board · Meeting of August 3, 2026

Hampden Select Board rejects proposed school-agreement language, orders nuisance dogs restrained, closes decade-long land deal. Chair John D. Flynn and the board told Wilbraham counterparts they won't back amendment language addressing the fate of Wilbraham Middle School, calling it speculative ahead of a regional feasibility study; a staffer identified as Brian said "until we have cold, hard facts about what exactly is being done, no changes should be made." Separately, Animal Control Officer Shelly Sears testified that two dogs owned by Antonio Basile had repeatedly run loose, scratching resident Desiree Johnson, prompting a unanimous restraint order.

The board also authorized Flynn to close on a North Road property under a 2026 town meeting vote, hired Eugene D'Angelo as a transfer-station attendant, set an October 26 special town meeting, and reported signing town warrants totaling $978,327.06 and $84,950.12 in late July.
