HAMPDEN — The Hampden Selectboard said it would recommend no action on regional school agreement amendments and previewed a $415,000 special town meeting warrant set for October 26. Selectboard member Donald L. Davenport argued the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education "keeps moving from the goalposts" on language long settled in the 1993 regional agreement.

Officials reported free cash of $1,269,840, stabilization of $1,342,040, and $1,450,000 in outstanding water district debt, aiming to keep the tax rate increase under 4 percent. Chair John D. Flynn credited Davenport for a new room occupancy tax that generated $18,000 in third-quarter revenue.

An advisory committee member separately raised concern that the town's $8 million fire station project has changed substantially from what residents were originally shown, saying "you can't do a bait and a switch."
