Hampden study panel approves survey on Old Town House's future. The Old Townhouse Study Committee voted unanimously Tuesday to send out a resident survey and matching flyer, both available online via QR code and in paper form at the senior center and library, to gather feedback before recommending what to do with the vacant former municipal building. Committee member Donald Davenport reported the empty building currently costs the town about $3,350 a month combined for insurance, gas and electric, including roughly $9,000 a year in gas and $22,500 in electricity.
Members also voted unanimously to seek a formal town counsel opinion on any deed restrictions before the building could be sold or repurposed, to look into what would be required to pursue National Register of Historic Places listing, and to develop a public-awareness campaign ahead of a planned public forum in April.
