Hampden's Old Town House Committee votes to recruit AI-savvy Wilbraham High School students for building reuse research. The effort would draw on $19,200 in existing planning funds tied to casino mitigation revenue, though a specific dollar figure for the student project was not finalized.
A construction consultant's preliminary estimates put renovation costs at $6 million to $6.8 million for a moderate rehab and $7.6 million to $8.5 million for a full historic restoration of the 17,000-square-foot building. One member warned that "if we go to a town meeting and the town meeting says get rid of it, demolish it, sell it," any planning investment would be wasted, while members also reviewed a draft request for interest modeled on a similar Wilbraham solicitation that drew a single respondent.
