Hampden committee narrows old Town House's future to four options after rocky public forum. Members of the town's Old Town House study committee said an AI-generated podcast played at an April forum came across as confusing and overly negative, and agreed future presentations need simpler slides and better acoustics. Options on the table range from demolition at roughly $1 million to a town-retained renovation estimated near $8.9 million, with members noting the empty building's insurance costs keep climbing the longer a decision is delayed.
"The overall message of the current podcast is very negative. It's because of the ingredients that we gave it," one member said. The panel picked member Paul to deliver a brief, non-binding update at next week's Annual Town Meeting and flagged a separate multimillion-dollar fire station project and a regional middle school study with Wilbraham as competing capital costs.
Minutes from March 10 and March 24 were approved unanimously.
