Hampden panel picks Davenport as chair

Hampden's new Old Town House Committee elected Donald Davenport chair at its first meeting. Town Administrator Brian Domina briefed the panel, whose voting members include Amy Bilodeau, Tad Brown, Thad Clavette, Brian DelNegro, Paul Marcelina, Heather Mullane Bean, Joe Sibilia and Steven Webster, on the vacant building's history and finances, including a Tighe & Bond estimate of $7.7 million to bring it to full code and ADA compliance. Members discussed possibly coordinating with the adjacent fire station project, whose $8.3 million bond is being reconsidered, and floated a zoning overlay district to allow flexible reuse.
Webster said it "makes sense to explore" combining the sites into a public safety complex. The committee plans a building tour with Building Commissioner Wendel Hulbert and a public informational meeting before narrowing options.
